Analysis Of Patricia Collinss Black Feminist Eye

In today’s world with becoming a strong young black woman every day, my mind has expands toward the very things I never really knew and being mindful of black women’s experiences has familiarity of the structure of the black feminist. In Black Feminist Thought, by Patricia Collins, draws the attention to the theory of black feminist innovations and their opinions on women of color. She also embraces figures made by black women intellects who performed a role in evolving this theory. In similarity to Collins’ novel, The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison, the African American female individuals depicted as the women of color labeled in the novel, Black Feminist Thought. Collins’ mentions that â€Å"the mammy image is on of an asexual woman, a surrogate mother in bl ackface whose historical devotion to her White family is now giving way to new expectation† (Collins 81). Pauline had to show that she was absolutely devoted to her servant job. Showing interest in this job could possibly disguise her social status because of who she is working for. In order for her to do this job, should not involve treating your family like nothing. Even though her family was poor and had the status of working class, I believe Pauline did not want to show it and that she was getting paid great money when she was working for cheap labor. Collins’ also mentions, â€Å"The mammy image was designed to mask this economic exploitation of social class† (Collins 81). It all about appreciating the job that you are working whether or not you are getting high or low pay. With that job, you will do whatever it takes to have good reputation and to keep it. The idea of the objectification of black women is also discussed in Black Feminist Thought as well. This aspect being focused on says, â€Å"Black women were used as sex objects for the pleasure of White men† (Collins 146). This is where prostitution comes into play.
